The Kano State Police Command has confirmed the recovery of 163 thumb-printed ballot papers and two ballot boxes from 333 suspected political thugs arrested during last Saturday’s election in the state. This was disclosed on Monday by the State Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Bakori, while briefing journalists at the command headquarters in Bompai, Kano. Bakori also revealed that the command recovered ₦4,048,000 from the suspects. In addition, security operatives seized 14 vehicles, one pump-action rifle, five locally made guns, and several dangerous weapons during the operations. According to him, “The elections in Ghari/Tsanyawa and Bagwai/Shanono constituencies were marred by attempts from unscrupulous individuals who imported thugs from within and outside the state to disrupt the process.” He confirmed that all the arrested suspects had been charged before various Magistrates’ Courts in Kano, including Courts 20, 27, and 44 in Nomansland, as well as Courts 8 and 53 in Gyadi-Gyadi, on Monday, 18 August 2025. He added that the charges ranged from criminal conspiracy, disorderly conduct, and possession of offensive weapons to intimidation, loitering without lawful excuse, snatching or destruction of election materials, improper use of vehicles, and vote solicitation on election day. CP Bakori reiterated the command’s commitment to justice, stressing that those who undermine the democratic process would be held accountable. He commended the combined security agencies for their professionalism and coordinated efforts in containing violence and safeguarding voters, election officials, and the public. “Security is a collective responsibility, and together we can protect the integrity of our democratic institutions and ensure a peaceful Kano State,” he added. “As we continue to secure the democratic process, I urge the good people of Kano State to remain law-abiding and to cooperate with security personnel.” ALSO READ TOP STORIES FROM NIGERIAN TRIBUNE
