Kellie Harrington has surprised herself with how much she has relaxed the reins of her training since retiring from boxing.
Moving away from the sport has also allowed her to reconnect with her partner Mandy Loughlin.
The couple married in April 2022 and since she stepped back following the 2024 Olympics, they have had much more quality time together.
'Most of all, I've just been enjoying it. Meeting people, just enjoying finding who I am again, and being that person. And I'm reconnecting with Mandy, as well, we're doing a lot more stuff together,' she told the Irish Independent.
Kellie also touched on how those closest to her, including Mandy, have helped her to stay grounded and cope with retiring.
She explained that the publicity and profile that comes from a huge win like an Olympic title can cause someone to think that everyone is a friend but she has learned to judge who is a real friend and keeps her circle very small and tight.
Kellie is very clear that she won't be tempted back into the ring and reflecting back on her stellar career, it's not her many wins that she wants fans to think about when they think of her.
Kellie said: 'I'd just like to be remembered as a good person. That's it, really. Imagine having two Olympic gold medals and not being a good person? That's not the legacy I want.
'But I want to be known as more than a double Olympic champion. I haven't really settled on what it is that I'm going to do but I'll get there.
