Kevin De Bruyne flooded with demands to join shock new club after Man City announcement

Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne has seen one of his social media accounts flooded with demands to join Turkish side Galatasaray following the announcement he will leave the club at the end of the season. The 33-year-old midfielder has been at City for almost a decade as he joined the club from Wolfsburg back in the summer of 2015. In that time, he has won six Premier League titles, two FA Cups, five League Cups and the Champions League . De Bruyne is out of contract at the end of the current campaign and he confirmed on Friday that he will not be extending his stay at the Etihad Stadium . In a statement released on social media, he revealed these will be his final months as a City player. "Dear Manchester, seeing this, you probably realize where this is heading," he wrote on Instagram. "So I'll get straight to it and let you all know that these will be be my final months as a Manchester City player. Nothing about this is easy to write but as football players we all know this day eventually comes. That day is here - and you deserve to hear it from me first." He added: "This will always be our HOME. We cannot thank that city, club, staff, teammates, friends, and family enough for this 10-year ride. Every story comes to an end but this has definitely been the best chapter. Let's enjoy these last moments together!" City will compete at the FIFA Club World Cup across June and July this summer, but it is not yet known whether De Bruyne will stay for the duration of the tournament. His contract, which expires at the end of June, will run out following the first phase of the tournament in the US, meaning De Bruyne would have to sign a short-term extension to take him through until July 13. Beyond that, the midfielder's next steps are already being speculated about in the media, with clubs in Saudi Arabia and the USA being mentioned as potential destinations. However, if his Instagram comments are anything to go by, fans of Turkish club Galatasaray are hopeful that the Belgium international will join them. "Come and be the second most loved player of the team after Icardi," one fan wrote in the comments, while lots of others simply said, "Come to Galatasaray." The requests are not without substance, as links first emerged during the January transfer window, but a move never materialised. Some reports in Turkey at the time suggested that Galatasaray were prepared to wait until the summer to sign him as a free agent, but the truth of those claims remains unclear. It is worth noting that, despite his age, De Bruyne will have plenty of suitors as one of the most gifted midfielders in world football. Whether Galatasaray can compete with the riches of Saudi Arabia and MLS is another question, but this will undoubtedly become one of the biggest stories of the transfer window. --- Here at the Manchester Evening News, we’re dedicated to bringing you the best Manchester City coverage and analysis.
