Paul Scholes branded 'disgusting' over daughter video as he admits heartache about son

Paul Scholes found himself at the centre of a social media storm when he was videoed chewing his 20-year-old daughter's toenails. The Manchester United legend built a reputation as one of England's greatest-ever midfielders during his illustrious playing career, and he's since transitioned into punditry with TNT Sports. But he found himself in the limelight for very different reasons in October 2021. Scholes , who returns to Old Trafford to take part in Soccer Aid on Sunday, could be seen chomping down on the big toe of his daughter Alicia , now 24, in a video she shared on her public Instagram story. The clip was captioned "true love" and began circulating far and wide after being viewed by her tens of thousands of followers. Scholes was soon being mocked online with the footage widely slammed as "disgusting", and it ended up being a bad week all round for him as United were thrashed 5-0 by arch rivals Liverpool shortly after. He broke his silence on the matter by sharing one abusive message that read: "Drop dead." Re-posting the message, Scholes said: "This is one of the nicer comments I've had this weekend.... I've had better ones." The incident has since been used against him by notorious troll Neal Maupay. After being criticised by the pundit, who called him an "idiot" for just "taking the p***" on the pitch, Maupay posted on X: "Surprised Paul Scholes can fit my name in his mouth alongside his daughter's toes." Alicia has since gone on to become a professional netball player. After starting out at Manchester Thunder, she joined their Netball Super League rivals London Pulse in 2022. She's also represented England on the international stage. Speaking prior to her rise in 2020, she told Sky Sports the lesson she'd learned from her dad's own sporting successes. "If anything, what I've learnt from my dad is to never look too far ahead of yourself," she said. "He says to me before I go to training, Thunder should be my main focus and every single time I train there, I should learn and get better. "Obviously, it's every girl's dream to play for England, but I never look at that now. I just want to make sure I am the best I can be for Thunder and I want to be one of those players who can go on court every week and do my best. I'd like to be well-known at Thunder, rather than look too far ahead." Alicia previously dated Wales rugby star turned NFL hopeful Louis Rees-Zammit, who Scholes tried to convince to represent England instead. She is one of three children that he has with his wife of 26 years, Claire. They also have two sons - Arron, 25, and Aiden, 20. Aiden was diagnosed with autism as a child and is non-verbal, with the former midfielder admitting it's been the biggest impact on his life . "The undoubted impact it has on his brother and sister kills me every single day. No way I could that say that in front of people or on telly. Bye," he previously posted on social media.
