Kilkenny gardaí were drawn to an eye-catching situation in the city centre on Sunday. In a post to social media, a garda spokesperson said being a safe driver means being able to see what is going on around you and 'safety standards are there for everyone.' "One of our lads on the bike came across this red Golf earlier, driving on High Street with both front windows down, odd, as were the tiny font number plates," Kilkenny gardaí posted to social media. "A quick stop and further inspection confirmed the reason for the windows being down, full 'Limo' tint. Next our Garda PSV inspector was called to check the tints (and look at other modifications), 3% clarity on the side windows and 43% on the windscreen. READ NEXT: Kilkenny emergency services attend the scene of two car collision "The law is clear, a minimum of 65% light transmission is required on the windscreen and front side windows," they added "Many say, I'm only getting a 30% tint so I'll be grand, wrong. What people forget is that your front and side windows have a tint already so if you tint them further, you run into trouble. One of our lads ran the tint meter on one of our Tucson patrol cars and it showed that 79% of light us being allowed through so it for instance could not legally be tinted much more. "Back to the stop, the driver has been instructed to remedy the defects forthwith with a reinspection in his diary. If this is not done, a day in court beckons," they continued.
