The girls from Callan United made soccer history when they lifted the FAI National Cup. The under-17s became the first team from their club to win All-Ireland silverware and did it in style, dethroning reigning champions Athenry 2-0 in a thriller in Limerick to deliver more success for the Kilkenny & District League. Chloe Tennyson (Callan United, centre) celebrates with team-mates after scoring her side's second goal during the FAI Women's Under-17 Cup final against Athenry Picture: Thomas Flinkow/Sportsfile Chloe Tennyson was the match-winner, and player of the match, scoring twice in the first half to leave a United coached by Dwayne Tennyson and Jack Ryan smiling at the home of Fairview Rangers. After Tennyson’s brace left United with one hand on the silverware, a solid second half performance saw Callan shut Athenry of the game, their defensive strength coming from, as coach Tennyson said, three years of hurt, which saw them earn the honour of being crowned the best in the country at Under-17 level.
