The Technology Consultancy Centre (TCC-CIMET) at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi in collaboration with the Ghana Institution of Engineers (GhIE) and German partners, has successfully concluded a three-day International Quality Management for Executives Workshop.
Held at the TCC-CIMET Powell Building, the intensive training brought together Project Managers and Executives from institutions such as DBS Industries Limited, AngloGold Ashanti, and Jasey Mining Services Limited. The workshop also welcomed professionals from academia, construction, healthcare, and engineering consultancy sectors.
Speaking on the purpose of the workshop, Mrs. Matilda Freda Marful, Principal Investigator and Lead Facilitator, emphasized the critical need to equip today’s executives with advanced quality management competencies.
“The workshop is designed to deepen participants’ understanding of contemporary Quality Management Systems (QMS) and their application across educational, service-oriented, and industrial contexts, sessions covered key quality concepts, ISO 9001:2015 standards, continuous improvement strategies, and the interface between quality assurance and institutional governance,” she stated.
Mrs. Marful also announced the next workshop scheduled for August 2025 will be titled “The Roadmap to ISO 9001 Certification,” which will be followed by a study tour to Germany in October/November 2025. She mentioned that “the tour will feature industrial visits and demonstrations of best practice Quality Management examples.”
Participants are encouraged to register early to benefit from Continuous Professional Development and international exposure.
The participants engaged in practice-based learning, real-world case studies, and cross-sector discussions, which enabled them to design institution-specific action plans and share insights on quality challenges and innovations.
The workshop was delivered in a highly interactive format, combining expert-led lectures, group exercises, and strategic problem-solving sessions. Participants explored core quality frameworks, process mapping, and collaborative improvement planning tailored to their industries.
In his remarks, Prof. Francis Davis, Director-General of TCC-CIMET, reaffirmed the Centre’s commitment to advancing innovation and quality assurance.
“This workshop forms part of our broader vision at TCC-CIMET and GhIEto elevate institutional performance by aligning local practices with global standards,” he said. “It underscores our leadership in building resilient, high-performing professionals for Africa and beyond.”
A key highlight of the workshop was a series of group presentations, where participants used process mapping tools to illustrate the value streams and operational landscapes of their organizations.
Nana Oye Woodiez, Deputy Head Teacher at the KNUST Basic School, shared how the training reshaped her professional outlook:
“One of my biggest takeaways is realizing that, in education, I’m delivering a service to students and their parents. The emphasis on documentation and clearly outlined goals has shown me how to guide both staff and stakeholders toward a unified vision,” she said.
The training saw key personalities from TCC-CIMET, including Prof. Francis Davis, Mr. Maxwell Agyemang-Yeboah, Director of Administration at TCC-CIMET, and Mr. Michael Kweku Commeh.
