After triggering a shockwave in world cricket with his sudden Test retirement, Virat Kohli was clicked playing pickleball with his wife, Anushka Sharma, on Wednesday, May 21. The Indian batting legend enjoyed sharing the pickleball court with the famous Bollywood actress amid an extended break between matches in the ongoing Indian Premier League. The couple was clicked enjoying the game in a series of pictures posted by the Royal Challengers Bengaluru. In the picture, Kohli is seen sharing a high-five with Anushka as the couple teamed up against members of the RCB squad and coaching staff at the pickleball court. While the spotlight continues to be on the Indian batting great since calling it quits in Tests, he was seen relaxing with Anushka and the RCB contingent before their next IPL 2025 fixture on Friday, May 23 against the Sunrisers Hyderabad in Lucknow. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Royal Challengers Bengaluru (@royalchallengers.bengaluru) Kohli left his fans across the world overwhelmed by signing off from the traditional format on May 12. Expected to continue playing red-ball cricket for at least another 2-3 years due to his remarkable fitness, he hung up his Test jersey at the age of just 36 following a sustained decline in his batting returns. After becoming one of Test cricket’s most celebrated run-machines with over 7,000 runs and 27 centuries at the end of 2019, Kohli failed to reach the 10,000 milestone, scoring only 2,028 runs in his last 39 Tests at an average of 30.72. The great batter had reportedly communicated his desire to retire from Tests to the selectors in April after enduring a disappointing Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 in Australia. Despite starting the tour with a century in India’s win in Perth, Kohli finished with only 190 runs in nine innings as familiar issues outside off-stump resurfaced for the front-foot-dominant right-hander. With the struggles in Australia taking their toll, Kohli decided to sign off from the format, leaving a huge void for the youngsters to fill. Kohli, who played an instrumental role in India’s Champions Trophy triumph in March, has continued to be in rich form in the limited-overs arena with a mammoth 505 runs in 11 innings at a strike rate of 143.46 in RCB’s successful IPL 2025 campaign so far.
