Four more University of Michigan students with ties to the athletic department, both past and present, have filed class-action lawsuits against the school, Matt Weiss and the third-party vendor for alleged account hacks.
Three separate lawsuits filed in federal court in Michigan last week, one on Wednesday, another on Thursday, and a third on Friday, claimed the former assistant football violated their privacy when he hacked into databases with sensitive personal and medical information.
Weiss is already facing a class-action lawsuit brought forth on March 21 by a pair of former Michigan student-athletes, claiming that the former offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach accessed their private, personal, intimate photos.
The first of the trio of new suits, filed on Thursday, involves a former female student-athlete from New Jersey who played on the Michigan volleyball team from 2020 to 2024 and a former student-athlete from Michigan who played on the women’s soccer team from 2020 to 2024.
They allege that Weiss “unlawfully captured their private and sensitive personal records from electronic mail sources without permission” by “infiltrating athlete databases that were maintained by (Keffer Development Services, LLC).”

The second suit involving a current student at Michigan — described as a junior who’s “been active in the athletics program there since she enrolled” — alleges that Weiss unlawfully obtained her personal information and the school failed to monitor its employee.
Weiss is accused by federal prosecutors of infiltrating a third-party database with personal information and medical data for more than 150,000 student-athletes at 100 colleges and universities across the country and hacking social media, email and cloud storage accounts of more than 2,000 student-athletes, primarily targeting women.
He is alleged to have done this from 2015 to January 2023, when Michigan fired him following an investigation involving its own police department. Weiss has been charged with 24 federal counts related to unauthorized computer access and identity theft.
The current student says she“felt violated, humiliated and suffered an invasion of privacy that cannot be remedied.”
The third suit, filed Friday by a former gymnast at Michigan from 2013 to 2017, claims that the plaintiff “participated in the gymnastics program while Weiss’ breach of the University and Keffer’s systems was ongoing.”
All three class-action lawsuits are seeking a jury trial to award monetary relief, restitution and damages.
