Lindsey Vonn is paying tribute to her "sweet, sweet" dog, Lucy.
The Olympian, 40, announced on Instagram on Sunday, March 30, that her Cavalier King Charles Spaniel has died, following a previously announced diagnosis of kidney failure, as reported by the Associated Press.
The pup "brought so much light and love" to "everyone she met" during her nine years with Vonn, the alpine skier wrote in a touching Instagram caption, alongside a collection of photos of some of their many adventures together. In the photos, Vonn could be seen snuggling up, playing in the snow, in a hot air balloon, enjoying water sports and more alongside her late pal.
"We traveled the world together, skied, hiked, biked, explored, went down waterfalls, up in air balloons, to the Olympics … we went on SO many incredible adventures together, and created so many memories that I am beyond lucky to have shared with her," Vonn wrote. "We even had our own TV show! There was nothing Lucy couldn’t do!"
"She was never scared, never hesitant to try something new, she was always happy, loved big and unconditionally," she added. "There will never be enough words to describe how much I love her and my heart will never ever be the same without her. There will never be another Lucy."
Vonn previously shared last month, per the Associated Press, that Lucy's kidneys were failing and that the prognosis was not favorable.
Vonn, whose mother Linda Lindy Anne Lund died in 2022 after being diagnosed with ALS, wrote that the pup was now "up in heaven" with her mother, her late dog Bear and other loved ones. "I envision them all together, running around, happy and no longer in pain, always guiding me and watching out for me from above," she wrote. "At least I have to believe that or else the pain would be unbearable… Lucy, you will always be my light. Until we meet again … I love you my princess ❤️"
In her lengthy caption, the Olympian also acknowledged the "incredible" veterinarians who took care of Lucy — "especially over the last days" — writing that she was "forever grateful."
"My big boy Leo is thankfully still in remission and going strong at 12 years old," she wrote of her other dog. "It’s back to how it all started … just me and Leo. Thankful I still have him 🙏🏻"

Vonn also shared the news to her Vonn Dogs Instagram page, dedicated to her three pups: Lucy, Leo and Jade. As she noted in her caption, Leo is currently in remission following chemotherapy earlier this year — when she wrote in a separate Instagram caption that he was "looking like the strong, handsome, perfect boy he is" after the conclusion of his treatment.
Several friends and fans sent their well wishes to Vonn in the post's comment section after she announced Lucy's death, with Nina Dobrev, Coco Gauff, Reese Witherspoon, Tay Lautner, Cameron Brink and others sharing their condolences.
"Oh friend .. I'm so sorry😢," Witherspoon commented. "Sending you big hugs. ❤️"
"I’m SO sorry. Sending you so much love Linds 💔❤️💔❤️💔," Dobrev added.
Lucy's death comes three years after Vonn's 8-year-old dog Bear died following aggressive cancer in his heart, Hemangiosarcoma. She also shared the news on Instagram, calling him a "brave boy" who was "special."
As for Vonn, just last week she broke the record as the oldest woman to have a podium finish at a World Cup, after she placed second in the Super-G race at the Audi FIS Ski World Cup finals in Idaho on March 23. It also marked her first podium since coming out of retirement for the competition in January.
