The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the alleged liquor scam in Andhra Pradesh reportedly arrested Kasireddy Rajashekar Reddy, the main suspect in the case, at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) in Hyderabad, Telangana, on Monday.
SIT had served notices to Kasireddy Rajasekhar Reddy thrice in the last few days. He approached the High Court seeking anticipatory bail and skipped questioning by the investigation officers. With the court rejecting the anticipatory bail, Kasireddy returned to Hyderabad, where the SIT police took him into custody. Police will shift him to Vijayawada.
Police had already questioned former Rajya Sabha member and YSRCP leader V. Vijaya Sai Reddy and Rajampet MP P.V. Midhun Reddy in the alleged multi-crore scam. Mr. Vijaya Sai Reddy had alleged that Kasireddy Rajasekhar Reddy is the main accused in the liquor scam, and he could reveal more facts about the scandal.
SIT police will produce Kasireddy in the court in Vijayawada on Tuesday, a senior police officer said on Monday.
It was alleged that some YSRCP leaders floated distilleries, introduced new brands of liquor, colluded with some officers and earned crores of rupees from 2019 to 2024, by conducting cash transactions at the liquor outlets. Police had registered a case on the liquor scam, which was later transferred to SIT recently.
