Livingston boss still looking for 'one or two more' summer signings

David Martindale still wants at least one more player in at Livingston as he rebuilds for a tilt at the Scottish Premiership. But he says sending Liam Sole to Inverness on loan isn’t to clear space for an incoming player. Martindale expects to announce one new face in the coming days, and is hopeful of bringing in another. He said: “I’m probably going to bring one or two more in. We’re speaking to one, I think there will be one getting announced in the next couple of days, so we’re still looking to do a wee bit of business. “We need to move one or two out for that to happen, but that should happen also.” Midfielder Sole, 25, has been farmed out to Inverness, bossed by Scott Kellacher, having failed to properly break through at Almondvale. Martindale said: “Liam wasn’t really in my plans, moving forward, and he needed to get out and play football. “He never really left that first-team changing room, so to speak. “I had an honest conversation with Liam at the end of the year, he had struggled to get into the squads, and fair play to Liam, he’s gone out and he’s getting the game-time that I feel he needs. “I think he’ll be a really good player for Kells up at Inverness, and I think that’s what Liam needs, to go and play 20 or 30 games somewhere consistently this season, and he’ll kick on again.” Martindale admits Livingston are slightly “undercooked” as they head into their Premier Sports Cup Group H opener at East Fife on Saturday. The Lions then visit Premiership rivals Kilmarnock on Wednesday, and host Brora Rangers the following weekend, before ending at home to Kelty Hearts on July 26. Martindale said: “We’re not a million miles away. We’re a wee bit undercooked still, because we came into it a wee bit later [with the play-offs] than most, but I’m not really wanting to use that as an excuse. “At the end of the day, East Fife are a part-time team, so we should be going into that with confidence. “It will be a good test for us, Dick always has his teams set up really well, but we should be going into that in a good place. “We’re back at home a week on Saturday, so the park will be ready. We’re in training on the park Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and we’re away to Kilmarnock on the Wednesday, so we’ve got a wee bit of the time on the park. “I’m all right with the first three games, two part-time teams and a full-time team so, sitting here as a full-time manager, I’ve not got much to complain about.” Livingston returned from their summer training camp in the Netherlands with a 3-1 win over Aris, with goals from Danny Finlayson, Graham Carey and Andy Winter, and Robbie Muirhead netted in a 1-1 draw with KV Kortrijk. Winter had been sent out to Arbroath on loan in January, but Martindale says the young striker is very much in his plans. He said: “We won the first one against Aris, drew the second one against Kortrijk, so it was good, really beneficial to the group. “Andy Winter has never been out the picture. Andy asked to go out on loan in January, if he never chapped my door in January, Andy would have been with us at the tail-end of the season. “He has always been in my picture. He’s a young player, I’ve got a lot of time for Andy, he’s a good professional, gives it everything when he’s on the park. “Andy has never really been out my thoughts.”
