LSG Owner Schooled By World Cup Winner For Discussions With Rishabh Pant In Public: 'Let Them Play Freely'

It’s a sight that’s now becoming familiar – Lucknow Super Giants owner Sanjiv Goenka pulling aside his captain for a lengthy post-match discussion, especially after defeats. Ex-LSG star, opener and captain KL Rahul endured it last season and now their record-breaking signing Rishabh Pant is getting a taste of it.
Rahul’s animated chat with Goenka created a storm and eventually, the wicketkeeper-batter was released by the franchise after they finished a lowly seventh on the table and failing to qualify for the playoffs for the first time since making debut in 2022.
On Tuesday night, after LSG endured a big defeat at the hands of Punjab Kings in what was their first home game of IPL 2025, Goenka was again seen having a lively discussion with Pant with the screengrabs of them having conversation being widely shared on social media.
Former India bowler and member of India’s 1983 World Cup winning team Madan Lal has advised Goenka to not put the players under pressure and allow them to play freely citing the ‘unpredictable’ nature of T20 cricket.
“I don’t know the discussion between Rishab and Mr Sanjiv Goenka. All this can happen inside. Let boys enjoy the game let them play freely.20/20 cricket very unpredictable,” Lal posted on X (formerly Twitter).
Goenka’s LSG splurged an eyepopping Rs 27 crore to secure the signature of Pant at the IPL Mega auction last year. However, the record signing hasn’t hit the ground running since leaving Delhi Capitals for the new franchise.
Pant-led LSG have won one and lost two matches so far in the season with the wicketkeeper-batter himself managing 17 runs in three innings including a duck.
LSG are currently sixth on the IPL points table and next face Mumbai Indians on Friday.
