A man who is accused of stabbing a rugby star and his father to death at a business unit in south London is now in a wheelchair, a court has heard. Brendan McMillan, 27, and his father Terry, 58, were allegedly murdered by Hassan Cevik, 31, at the Trademark Homes in Bermondsey on July 28. A 47-year-old man was also stabbed and Cevik is now in a wheelchair after he was injured in the incident. Brendan McMillan had played for Blackheath, the oldest open rugby club in the world, and was a member of the Jamaica UK rugby team. Cevik, of Hackney, east London, did not appear at Croydon Magistrates' Court for his first hearing and the case proceeded without him. He is charged with two counts of murder, causing grievous bodily harm relating to the 47-year-old man, and possession of an offensive weapon. No pleas were entered or indicated. Prosecutor Ava Thompson said Cevik also sustained stab wounds and was released from hospital over the weekend. Umar Zaheer, defending, said: 'Cevik has been with us since we saw him at the police station on Saturday.' Magistrate Terry Carpenter remanded Cevik in custody and sent the case to the Old Bailey for its next hearing on August 13. 'Due to the nature and seriousness of this matter, it is only going to one place, and it will go ahead at the Central Criminal Court,' Mr Carpenter said. 'It does not matter that Cevik is not here today. We can proceed without him.' Police and paramedics were called to Long Lane, Bermondsey, after reports of multiple stabbing at around 1pm. Brendan McMillan died at the scene, while his father died later in hospital. They were from Chislehurst in southeast London. Cevik was charged the following day. Old Colfeians Rugby Club, the last team Brendan McMillan played for, said in a tribute: 'Old Colfeians lost a member of our family, one of the kindest, funniest, most genuine people you could ever meet. 'Brendan lit up every room he walked into, forever smiling, always cracking a joke and always full of life. His absence will be deeply felt for a long time to come. 'We will miss him more than words can say and we'll always carry his memory with us. 'We are also mourning the loss of his beloved father, Terry, a long time supporter and sponsor of the club.
