Manchester United Boss Ruben Amorim's Pre-Season Training With Rasmus Hojlund Splits Opinion

Manchester United fans didn’t enjoy the sight of coach Ruben Amorim working with the much-criticised Rasmus Hojlund in a pre-season training session and expressed their disappointment yet again over the Red Devils’ underperforming striker. On Sunday, July 13, Amorim was caught supervising a training session featuring Hojlund, who has been facing the fans’ wrath since scoring only ten times in United’s disastrous 2024-25 season.
United approaches the next season after a terrible 15th place finish in the English Premier League and a Europa League final defeat at the hands of Tottenham Hotspur. The club has since then entered a rebuilding phase with owners handing Amorim the responsibility to compile a fresh squad that can revive their fortunes.
In a busy transfer window, the Portuguese manager pulled off a significant addition to the squad with the popular signing of Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers for a fee of around £62.5 million. The Brazilian star is taking the No.10 shirt from Marcus Rashford, who looks set to depart the club alongside winger Alejandro Garnacho.
United fans had anticipated the exit of Hojlund, too, after his underperformance left the Red Devils with a weak footing as they suffered 18 losses and their lowest-ever finish in the Premier League table. Fans couldn’t bear the sight of Hojlund training with Amorim after anticipating the arrival of a new striker to the club this summer.
“Hey Ruben, I promise he can’t get better, not with that mindset and movement he can’t,” wrote one fan, before another commented: “I need to understand Amorim’s thought process when it comes to him.
Another fan claimed, “PR machine in overdrive to deflect from another abysmal summer window. Hojlund, like Onana needs replacing. Last season was unforgivable.”
However, not all United fans are done with Hojlund, expecting the Danish international to turn his and the team’s fortunes around. “Amorim has a lot of work to do with Hojlund. But I’m happy for him to stay and keep grafting as long as he is the understudy to a proven striker,” wrote one fan, while another expressed more optimism: “He will turn him into Gyokeres. Has to bag at least 15 goals next league season if we don’t sign a striker.”
