Manchester United stance on Emi Martinez transfer emerges after injury blow
@Source: manchestereveningnews.co.uk
Manchester United have been handed an update regarding the future of Aston Villa goalkeeper Emi Martinez. United have been credited with an interest in signing the Argentina international this summer as they potentially look to strengthen the goalkeeping department. United currently have Andre Onana as their first-choice shot-stopper with Altay Bayindir and Tom Heaton in reserve, with the latter signing a one-year contract extension earlier in the summer. Martinez has been mentioned on the United rumour mill for several weeks as he continues to face an uncertain future at Villa Park. The 32-year-old was also linked with a move to Saudi Arabia earlier in the summer, but United have been tipped to be the most likely destination if Martinez was to leave Villa. Transfer specialist has now provided a fresh update on Martinez's future, specifically a potential move to United. Romano provided the update on his YouTube channel, where he claims that United are yet to open talks with Villa over a move for Martinez. It has been reported that United previously expressed an interest in Martinez back in June, speaking to the goalkeeper's agents, but there have been no fresh talks from the Old Trafford hierarchy in an effort to sign Martinez. United are currently without Onana, who is sidelined with a hamstring injury. Ruben Amorim and Co. will face Leeds United in their first pre-season fixture of the summer on Saturday, on their trip to Sweden. There has been just one new signing at United so far this summer with Matheus Cunha arriving from Wolves. United will also hope to soon agree a deal with Brentford for Bryan Mbeumo with a third bid totalling £70million including add-ons being submitted this week.
