Manchester United told to pay bargain transfer fee for Casemiro 'replacement'
@Source: manchestereveningnews.co.uk
Manchester United's focus in this summer transfer window is to overhaul their stuttering attack, but improvements elsewhere on the pitch wouldn't go amiss either - and some fans in the Manchester Evening News comments section say that poaching a willing Wilfred Ndidi from relegated Leicester City for a bargain fee wouldn't be a bad way to accomplish that. The Foxes endured a dismal Premier League campaign under Ruud van Nistelrooy, and will compete in the Championship next season - and their key man in midfield has a relegation release clause that will make it easier for United to sign him. Ndidi could be brought into the club for £9 million, which could be an attractive option considering the funds being spent elsewhere and the difficulty of selling their highly-paid players. Ndidi is an experienced Premier League-ready defensive midfielder, first brought to Leicester in 2017 to bolster the team that had won the title the season before. Speaking to Africa Foot , former Nigeria international Julius Aghahowa said his close friend wants to join United and added: “Wilfred is the player the Red Devils need in midfield. He’s surprisingly generous and capable of repeating efforts and covering a lot of space. He would be a considerable asset to the Manchester club if the transfer were to go through." Some fans think that Ndidi would be a capable addition to United's midfield, especially if there's a departure this summer. Reader Anniemause says: "He's not ideal but at 28 he is still at his peak and he has plenty of experience. Stats-wise he is strong defensively and would make a decent shorter term replacement for Casemiro whilst Ugarte continues his development. "On the downside whilst he is not so much injury prone as prone to the occasional serious injury having picked up 2 month long injuries in 3 of the last 4 seasons. That said, he has still managed to play at least 30 games in every season which is more than some in the United squad have achieved. "United need midfielders and at this stage of the window and for the price he is purportedly going for Ndidi would make a decent squad player. Obviously his fitness would need to be evaluated but if he gets through the medical he has to be considered seriously. He is a lot better option than not having a proper back up for Casemiro given Ugarte lacks positional discipline and arguably Ndidi could allow Casemiro to take the back seat a lot more. Grab him unless there is someone else with better credentials available." Commenter Endy1 writes: "Dive at him, he is an upgrade to what United have, and he wants to join." Hazmanu agrees: "Bargain at £9 million." On our Facebook page , Paul Rusagara says: "Ndidi not bad... he would be a good, cheaper and energetic midfielder to support others." Christopher Chambers writes: "100% would take him, EPL experienced and a hardworking player... The only player other than an aged Vardy that Leicester has that is actually good, and at £9 mil it's an absolute steal!" Martyn Gadsby agrees: "About time Utd got a bargain, he’s a decent player." Ronald Rodrygo would focus all of the club's energies on more pressing matters: "You don't have a better striker, but you want to buy a relegated, underperforming midfielder?" Adebayo Adenini says: "They should get him on loan and pay little salary, he's not so special anymore." Have your say!
