Manhunt as van hits woman after careering onto golf course following police chase

A huge manhunt is underway after a van hit a woman on a Sutton Coldfield golf course after it had been pursued by police. A grey Nissan van being chased by West Midlands Police officers was seen in Thornhill Road, near the Little Aston Estate, and Rosemary Hill Road before entering Aston Wood Golf Club shortly before 10.30am today, Friday, April 11. It crashed into the woman, leaving her with life-threatening injuries. The van was pursued by West Midlands Police officers following ‘reports of suspicious activity’, the Staffordshire force said. READ MORE: Golf club crash horror live as woman knocked down by van after police chase A spokeswoman for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: “We received a call at 10.26am to a road traffic collision involving a van and a pedestrian near to Blake Street, Little Aston in Sutton Coldfield. “Two ambulances, two paramedic officers, a trauma doctor and critical care paramedic and the Midlands Air Ambulance from Cosford attended the scene. “Upon arrival we found a woman who was the pedestrian with life-threatening injuries in a critical condition. “Ambulance staff quickly began administering advanced life support and advanced trauma care to her at the scene, which continued en route to Queen Elizabeth Hospital where she was conveyed via air ambulance for further treatment. “No further patients required treatment.” The golf club was sealed off. Detectives were seen in Station Approach, near Blake Street railway station, and in Ryknild Close and Shelley Drive. Some 25 police vehicles were reported at the scene at one stage with the police helicopter circling for around an hour and returning later. Staffordshire Police confirmed it was looking to trace three occupants of the van, which was left in a ditch at the golf club, believed to be near the first green. It also appealed for witnesses to come forward. A spokesman said: “Staffordshire Police is appealing for witnesses after a serious collision. “At 10.25am a grey Nissan van struck a member of the public on Aston Wood Golf Club on Blake Street following a pursuit by West Midlands Police cars. “We are working with West Midlands Police to trace the driver and two passengers who ran off from the scene. “A woman was injured in the collision and has been taken to hospital with serious injuries. Specialist officers are supporting the woman’s family. “The vehicle had been pursued by West Midlands Police officers prior to it entering the golf club site following reports of suspicious activity. “The Independent Office for Police Conduct have been informed by West Midlands Police as is standard procedure. “Staffordshire Police is keen to speak to anyone who was travelling in the area with any information or dashcam footage that could help the investigation. “We’ve created an online portal where people can leave information they may have.
