Masters 2025: Ludvig Aberg 'Walking on Cloud 9' at Augusta
@Source: newsweek.com
Ludvig Aberg continued to play at a very high level in the first round of the 2025 Masters Tournament. The young Swede finished the first 18 holes in a tie for second place at 4-under, three shots behind leader Justin Rose.Although this is only his second appearance in the Masters Tournament, Aberg has shown absolute control of Augusta National. It should not be forgotten that he finished second a year ago, boldly disregarding the fact that it was the first major championship of his career.The 25-year-old has an explanation for his good fortune at Augusta National, and it has to do with how much he enjoys playing there."I've just looked forward to it a lot. It's a test of golf that I really enjoy," Aberg said after his performance, talking about his preparation for facing the course."It demands a lot of patience," he added. "You can't really force it. I felt like I like that type of golf. I enjoy that challenge. It's almost like you're walking on cloud 9 every time you play Augusta, and today that was the case, as well."That is not to say that the first round was a walk in the park. The two-time PGA Tour victor offered a very different description of his day:"It was sneaky hard," he said. "There isn't a ton of wind, but it still swirls. There's a few greens that get a little crusty towards the end of the afternoon, and you really have to place your second shots if you're good off the tee.""It makes it tricky when the wind kind of goes back in your face and then down."Aberg made his first birdie of the day on the third, but bogeyed the next hole to fall back to even par. This would be his only major mistake of the day as he would not make another bogey for the rest of the round.Instead, the best was yet to come. Aberg made the turn at even par and found his best golf on the back nine. He made four birdies on the back nine to move up to second place on the leaderboard.In 2024, Aberg started the Masters with a first-round 73 that placed him outside the top 10, but he climbed to seventh with a second-round 69. On Moving Day, he carded a 70 and continued to move up the leaderboard, sitting in fourth place with 18 holes to play.In the final round, Aberg carded five birdies to finish as the tournament's solo runner-up. His only problem of the day was a double bogey on the 11th, but even if he had avoided it, he could not have threatened the victory of Scottie Scheffler, who finished on 11 under, four shots ahead of the Swede.More Golf: Justin Rose Making Masters History No One Wants a Part Of
