Jungle star Maura Higgins is reportedly "in a bad way...and really struggling" following her controversial kiss with married McFly star Danny Jones. The Love Island alum has jetted off to Los Angeles for a photoshoot amidst the backlash from her boozy encounter. Friends of the star have described the past week as "horrendous", revealing that she's been bombarded with "horrific" trolling on social media. One pal shared: "Maura is a tough character but the reaction to events of the last week has been utterly relentless, and it's fair to say it's taken its toll." "She has found all of this very difficult to navigate. She appreciates she's in the public eye and there is extra interest around her, but the abuse is off the charts, and people need to calm down." Maura was seen looking rather glum at Los Angeles International Airport late last week. Despite the drama, she's trying to keep things business as usual, although friends admit it's hard. The controversy began after a video surfaced showing Danny, 38, and Maura, 34, sharing a brief drunken kiss at a BRIT Awards afterparty. The pair were later spotted leaving the London event together, and a second video showed them at another afterparty at the Nobu Hotel in Marylebone, reports the Mirror. An onlooker dished on Danny and Maura's wild night, revealing: "Danny and Maura seemed to be enjoying their night of partying. They were knocking back wine at the Nobu from 4am and seemed keen to carry on. They weren't seen leaving before 6am." Meanwhile, a source expressed concern to the Mirror about the impact on Danny's wife Georgia, spilling: "She has been an incredible partner so this feels very unfair." The couple tied the knot in 2014 and share a seven year old son together. Amidst the drama, an insider explained that McFly's Danny is desperately engaged in crisis talks with Georgia in hopes of mending their marriage, adding fuel to the fire by saying: "Maura is getting a lot of the backlash, and Danny seems to be getting away with his actions." As she jetted off, Maura didn't shy away from the spotlight, sharing a snap of her airplane view on Instagram with the teaser "Exciting shoot" embellished with a plane emoji. This all unfolds after the celebs met on the set of ITV1's I'm A Celebrity last November. Reflecting on his relationship in the McFly memoir 'McFly - Unsaid Things: Our Story' penned in 2012, Danny wrote a heartfelt confession: "Georgia's amazing for me. The old Danny, the kid in the sweetie shop every time pretty girls were around, is gone. I don't want anybody else but her."
