The Senzo Meyiwa murder trial resumes in the High Court in Pretoria on Monday.
Five men are on trial for the 2014 murder of the Bafana Bafana captain who was shot and killed while at Kelly Khumalo’s parental home in Vosloorus, on Gauteng’s East Rand.
Defence counsel Advocate Charles Mnisi had asked the court for more time to cross-examine lead investigator, Brigadier Bongani Gininda, on behalf of accused number 1, Muzi Sibiya.
Mnisi had taken over Sibiya’s defence following the death of legal counsel, Thulani Mngomezulu, in December last year and requested more time to prepare to ensure his client has a fair trial.
But now, Meyiwa’s brother, Sifiso, has also written to the Judicial Service Commission on behalf of the family, asking for the removal of Judge Ratha Mokgoatlheng from the case, citing amongst other reasons, alleged bias towards the prosecution.
The letter states that the five men currently on trial for the soccer star’s murder are being wrongly prosecuted.
