Catholic Gymkhana began their playoff proceedings in the Mumbai Football Association First Division soccer play-offs with a bang.
Creating the bang was the cultured left-foot of industrious midfielder Jalmesh Nijai who conjured a goal out of the ordinary, with the game against Yawn FC a mere 22 minutes warm, Jalmesh’s 25-yard wonder strike paved the way for Catholic Gymkhana to register a 3-0 blanking in the one-sided early morning tie at the Neville D'Souza ground, Bandra. Sporting red and black colours, the gymkhana lads led 1-0 at the breather.
Earlier, Catholic Gymkhana goalkeeper Vipul Pagdhare made a couple of fine saves to keep his citadel intact.
Calling the tune right through the match, the Gymkhana lads impressed with their persevering approach. Nijai’s bolt from the blue goal, which soared past rival goalkeeper Zahid Shaikh into the top right corner only highlighted the yawning gap between the two teams.
