During Houston Dash’s She Shines Night, Super Falcons of Nigeria star Michelle Alozie chose to celebrate Grammy Award winner Tems. Houston Dash and a Nigerian international footballer Michelle Alozie has stated her inspiration for the 2025 NWSL season. Alozie paid a heartfelt tribute to Grammy-winning Nigerian singer, songwriter, and record producer Temilade Openiyi, known professionally as Tems during the Houston Dash “She Shines Night” event. Michelle Alozie on Tems Ahead of the game against Gotham FC, Alozie and Dash players donning warmup tops emblazoned with the names of women who have inspired them. Alozie chose to honor Tems for her groundbreaking contributions to music and sports. Alozie, who has been with the Houston Dash since 2021 and represents Nigeria’s Super Falcons on the international stage. She selected Tems for her remarkable achievements, including becoming the first African woman to own a stake in a U.S. professional soccer team. Tems joined the ownership group of San Diego FC, an MLS expansion team and recently attended a game. Beyond her ownership role, Tems has also made waves in the music industry, clinching the Best African Music Performance Grammy in 2025 for her hit Love Me Jeje. It was her second Grammy win after a 2023 victory for her feature on Future’s Wait For U. Alozie further emphasized Tems’ spiritual influence with a message that said, “I admire how Tems keeps her faith at the core of her music—it’s inspiring to see someone so God-centered making such a big impact.” Born in Apple Valley, California, to Nigerian parents from Imo State, Alozie has carved her own path in soccer, playing every minute for Nigeria at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup and establishing herself as a key player for the Dash.
