A gem of the Midlands has been named among the best places to live in the entire country. While Shrewsbury is a favourite for many in the Midlands, it's also considered among underrated locations for a day out, whether that's a trip with the family or visiting the pubs and restaurants. The riverside town is also within fairly easy reach for most in the region, less than an hour from Birmingham by good rail links or along the M6 and M54 motorways. Shrewsbury was named on the list of Midlands locations on the prestigious Sunday Times best places to live list, which seeks to find hidden gems and underrated locations along with the more picturesque, peaceful and upmarket towns and villages. The historic Shropshire town has been rated as a top day out, with independent shops, top restaurants and events giving visitors plenty to do. Shrewsbury Castle and the old prison are also popular visitor attractions. The town sits on the River Severn, with plenty of pubs offering nice views, where visitors can relax and watch the word go by with something cold to drink. A separate list also put the Shropshire town third for the most underrated day out in the country behind only Hastings and Leamington Spa.
