Legendary Croatian midfielder Luka Modrić has signed a one-year contract with AC Milan, marking a significant move in the summer transfer window. The 38-year-old joins the Rosso-neri on a free transfer after 12 amazing seasons with Real Madrid, where he won multiple La Liga titles and five UEFA Champions League trophies.
AC Milan’s new head coach, Massimiliano Allegri, confirmed the deal earlier this week, stating that Modrić would join the club officially in August following his participation in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup. The agreement includes an option for a second year, depending on performance and mutual consent. Modrić is expected to earn a net salary of approximately €3.5 million, plus performance-related bonuses.
Modrić had limited game time during his final season at Real Madrid but remained a respected figure both on and off the pitch. His leadership and experience are seen as key assets for a Milan side aiming to regain domestic dominance and make a deeper run in European competitions. The move has been met with enthusiasm by Milan supporters, who view Modrić as a valuable addition to the midfield alongside younger talents. Sporting director Geoffrey Moncada and coach Allegri reportedly played pivotal roles in convincing Modrić to choose Milan over other offers, including potential moves to the Saudi Pro League or Major League Soccer. This transfer signifies Modrić’s continued commitment to top-level football in Europe and provides AC Milan with a proven winner ahead of a crucial campaign in Serie A and the Champions League.
