@Source: timesnownews.com
Planning to escape to Mussoorie during the next busy holiday season? You might soon need to register before you go. To manage overwhelming crowds and notorious traffic jams in the popular hill station, the Dehradun administration is planning to implement a mandatory pre-registration system for tourists visiting Mussoorie during the peak season, according to a report by the Times of India. Under this proposed system, tourists would need to register their details online before entering Mussoorie. This includes providing information such as contact number, vehicle details, and the number of travelers. The registration process will be OTP-based, with a one-time password sent to the registered mobile number to verify the details. Once registered, visitors will receive a QR code, which must be shown at the checkpoints before being allowed into Mussoorie. The QR codes will be scanned using Automated Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) systems installed at the three main entry points to Mussoorie: Kimadi, Kempty Fall, and Kuthal Gate. Officials from the tourism department, who met recently to finalise the plan, have clarified that this system will only be enforced during the peak travel season. Vehicles without a valid QR code will not be permitted to enter, helping authorities reduce congestion, prevent bottlenecks, and ensure a smoother flow of traffic. Weekend Rush Takes Over Nainital, MussoorieIn Mussoorie and Nainital, the surge of weekend travellers offered a boost to local businesses in the summer. But the benefits were tempered by chaos. Traffic jams stretched for hours, leaving both tourists and locals stranded. In fact, a video that was been circulating online showed traffic jam in Nainital that stretching for 2 kilometres, with travellers stuck in one place for hours on end. On another occasion, a long jam led to the death of a person who was being ferried to a hospital in Nainital. Their ambulance was stuck in jam for hours. This has prompted discussions about overtourism in India's hill stations and the perils it poses to both locals and travellers.
