Bangladesh fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman on Wednesday (May 14) was officially confirmed by Delhi Capitals as the replacement for Australian top-order batter Jake Fraser-McGurk for the remainder of the IPL 2025 season. According to the statement replacement by Delhi Capitals on X, the 23-year-old right-handed batter will not be available for the rest of the season, and as a result, he has been replaced by Rahman, who played for the franchise in the IPL 2022 and 2023. “Mustafizur Rahman is back in after two years! He replaces Jake Fraser-McGurk, who is unavailable for the rest of the season,” DC’s tweet read. Mustafizur Rahman is back in ?❤️ after two years! He played six matches for Axar Patel’s men but could only manage to amass a total of 55 runs. He last played for DC in IPL 2025 on April 16 against Rajasthan Royals at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. Rahman, who played 10 matches for DC during his two-year association with the national capital-based franchise, has also played for Sunrisers Hyderabad, Mumbai Indians, Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings in the past. The 29-year-old left-arm pacer has 61 wickets to his name in 57 IPL matches played so far. In IPL 2024, he accounted for the dismissal of 14 batters in nine matches for the Ruturaj Gaikwad-led side. It has been reported that DC, who are still alive in the IPL 2025 playoffs race, are still waiting for confirmations from several of their first XI overseas players, which includes the likes of Australian left-arm pacer Mitchell Starc and South African duo of Tristan Stubbs and Faf du Plessis. It was reported by Australian media last week that Starc will not return to India, and if that happens, then his absence will be a big setback for Delhi Capitals, who, at the moment, with 13 points after 11 matches, are fifth in the IPL 2025 points table. Stubbs is part of South Africa’s World Test Championship (WTC) 2025 squad, and even if he returns for the IPL 2025, he won’t be available for playoffs, as Cricket South Africa (CSA) has directed its WTC-bound players to abide by the initial NOCs and return home by May 25.
