Minister for Local Government Maciu Nalumisa is optimistic that the upcoming National Budget will deliver much needed funding to address Fiji’s growing housing demands.
Mr Nalumisa highlighted the need for increased Government support for several critical development priorities, with housing and assistance for the Public Rental Board (PRB) schemes and first-time homeowners topping the list.
“Hopefully we will be able to get some assistance from Government and hopefully we will get at least majority of what we requested,” Mr Nalumisa said.
He noted that the projects under consideration are essential, not only for housing, but also for local government development and infrastructure improvements.
“It’s not only good for the nation, it’s also good for our country,” he said, emphasising the wider economic and social benefits of the initiatives.
In addition to housing-related priorities, Mr Nalumisa said the Ministry was planning to acquire new working tools to strengthen service delivery and operational efficiency across its departments.
“We want to acquire some new working tools to assist them in the area of work,” he said.
The 2025-2026 National Budget is under consultation, with various ministries presenting their funding needs for the next fiscal year.
For Mr Nalumisa, adequate support would be key to delivering on commitments to improve community wellbeing and enhance urban infrastructure.
