Syracuse’s largest housing subdivision in decades planned for abandoned country club: A California developer has unveiled plans to turn the former Lafayette Hills country club into a resort community with nearly 300 homes, a 9-hole golf course, man-made lakes and public walking and biking trails. Lafayette Hills Estates & Country Club would be the largest housing subdivision built in Syracuse in decades, with homes ranging from $350,000 to more than $1 million.

What a grand jury would consider in road-rage killing: Onondaga County prosecutors are investigating whether a man acted justifiably in self-defense when he shot and killed a knife-wielding man during a road rage incident Wednesday. The 43-year-old man who fired the gun might be an innocent victim who killed Ezell Hicks Jr., 61, out of a reasonable fear for his life and that of his passenger. Or, could be a criminal who intentionally killed Hicks when there was no real deadly threat, or when he could have retreated with complete safety. A few factors will determine whether the man who fired the gun can be prosecuted.

Kyle McCord deals with draft-day pranksters before call from Eagles: As Syracuse quarterback Kyle McCord waited for a call during the NFL Draft on Saturday, he said he received calls from pranksters pretending to be NFL personnel. So when a number with a 215 area code popped up on his phone later Saturday afternoon, McCord was suspicious. It turns out that the call was legit, telling McCord — who won a Pennsylvania state championship with Saint Joseph’s Prep — was about to become a member of the Philadelphia Eagles.
