NBA basketball megastar to bring his own GOLF tournament to prestigious Scots course this summer

ONE of the biggest stars in basketball is bringing his own tournament to Scotland - but it's nothing to do with his own sport.
Rather, it's a golf tournament and it will be making its debut in the country where the sport has its spiritual home this summer.
The Underrated Golf Tour was launched by modern day NBA legend Steph Curry and aims to increase participation in golf among minority groups to improve the sport's diversity, particularly among young people.
Curry founded the developmental tour in 2019 in the US and the circuit has established ties with the PGA Tour.
Last year it branched into Europe for the first time.
The tour travelled to Walton Heath Golf Club in Surrey for a two-day tournament last May and this year a prestigious Scottish course is on the list.
Almost 100 golfers will descend on Fairmont St Andrews (48 boys and 48 girls), with applications open for players aged between 12-18.
The 36-hole stroke play event will take place from August 13-15 at the Fife venue.
Winners of the competition gain automatic entry into the Curry Cup Tour Championship, which takes place back in the USA.
Curry, 37, is one of the greatest basketball players of his era and lays claim to perhaps the best shooter to play the game.
His effectiveness at the three-point shot revolutionised the sport but off the court, he is a passionate golfer.
Curry has spent time on the course with former US president Barack Obama and won the 2023 American Century Championship, a celebrity golf event.
Speaking on Underrated's upcoming visit to Scotland, Curry said: "I’m thrilled to see the Underrated Golf European Tour return for its second year and to partner with United Airlines as our presenting sponsor.
"The goal of this tour is to offer incredible opportunities to emerging golfers, allowing them to compete and develop their skills in some of the most historic and beautiful locations in the world.
"I’m excited to see the talent that will emerge from this tour and to continue to make golf a more inclusive and accessible sport.
"This is about more than just winning, it’s about bringing fresh talent to the forefront, inspiring the next generation of golfers, and showcasing the diversity of the game.
"We want Underrated to be a stepping stone for these young players to take their game to new heights."
Sky Sports presenter and former golfer Henni Zuel, a European ambassador for the tour, added: "Last year's London stop was a hit but this year we are stepping it up a notch."
The tour will also play an event at Foxhills County Club & Resort in Surrey from May 28-30.
The Fairmont is one of the top golf resorts in Scotland and has two courses: the Torrance and the Kittocks.
Ryder Cup hero Sam Torrance lent his design skills and name to the former layout and the Kittocks was designed by Bruce Devlin, with input from seven-time major winner Gene Sarazen.
