@Source: newsweek.com
For sports enthusiasts, winning moments are forever stored in memory. But what happens when a broadcasting channel misses the most crucial part of the action?That's precisely what transpired on Sunday at the Arnold Palmer Invitational. Russell Henley edged out Collin Morikawa to claim his career-best performance and his $4 million check at Bay Hill Golf Club & Lounge.He did so in dramatic fashion, following a hole-out for eagle on the par-5 16th. The only problem, as he hit the chip from just off the green, NBC was at commerical.Henley had been hovering around the lead on the scoreboard, but it wasn't until his eagle on the 70th hole that gave him the lead over Morikawa.Morikawa was laid up 90 yards out, while Henley's approach sailed right of the green. The television network then took a quick commercial break.When the broadcast returned, Henley's ball was already halfway toward the hole, clanging off the flagstick and dropping in for a swinging eagle. Missing this pivotal moment, without a doubt, fumed golf fans.As the on-course fans at Bay Hill celebrated Russell Henley's win, ending an 850-day PGA Tour drought, netizens could not control themselves and blasted NBC Sports over social media.NBC Sports under fire after unexpected faultBarstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy publicly mocked the network's mishandling of the $20M event as he filmed the whole incident and took it to X, formerly Twitter."Sweet coverage @NBCGolf," Portnoy captioned. The post quickly went viral, garnering over 775.2K views and more than 350 retweets within hours.The comments section was filled with fans echoing Portnoy's frustration, with one user sarcastically suggesting, "Maybe Golf would be more fun to watch if you were simultaneously bull posting about $Greed 3... just a thought..." Another fan chimed in, "We are waiting for you for greed3."One social media user took it a step further, comparing NBC's coverage to a bad relationship, saying, "NBC golf coverage is like my ex—shows up late, misses all the good shots, & somehow still thinks we're impressed when they finally decide to pay attention.""Lmao it happens all the time, too. Exactly like that!" commented another golf fan. And we agree. As this isn't the first time the broadcasting network has missed the mark with fans.NBC's golf coverage has faced criticism in the past for PGA Tour events as well. Take the 2025 Cognizant Classic, for instance, where fans noticed analysts covering odd and even holes for the $9.2M event. This eventually led to lackluster attention and analysis of the match, drawing the fans' disgust yet again.More Golf: Keegan Bradley Makes PGA Tour History Not Even Tiger Woods Accomplished
