Matthew Boazman, who has been Chief Executive at the NHS Trust since April 2023, received the honour at a ceremony yesterday (Tuesday 22 July).
He said: “It is a genuine privilege to receive this honour from such a world leading institution.
“Our organisation continues to work closely together around research, innovation and recruitment. It was wonderful to see many there who will go on to become our future leaders and practitioners in healthcare.
“I know that the health of this generation and future generations can hold much hope in the transformation of our health care services because of the skills, knowledge and talent that is coming from Aston University.”
Professor Aleks Subic, Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive of Aston University said: “As CEO of the Birmingham Women's and Children's NHS Foundation Trust, Matthew Boazman has had a significant impact on building a comprehensive relationship with Aston University over the years.
“Our strategic partnership has resulted in joint research projects, student placements and co-investments in joint staff and facilities. He was also instrumental in creating clinical opportunities for Aston medical students.
“The award of an honorary doctorate from Aston University recognises Matthew's sustained contributions to advancing health research and education, as well as clinical practice and health outcomes for our diverse communities.”
Matthew joined Birmingham Children’s Hospital in 2013 as Director of Strategy and Planning before becoming Chief Officer for Strategy and Innovation in 2015.
He is a passionate advocate for women’s and children’s health, and committed to reducing inequalities within West Midlands' communities.
