Nintendo is currently hard at work on two feature films: The Legend of Zelda at Sony Pictures, and the sequel to The Super Mario Bros. Movie at Universal Pictures. However, the company has no plans to stop there. Nintendo has confirmed that it’s working on various projects in the visual medium in addition to its two announced movies.
Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa confirmed that multiple non-gaming projects are in the works during the company’s recently-published Q&A. “Although we cannot discuss our plans beyond The Legend of Zelda movie at this time, we are working on various other projects,” he said.
Furukara also said that Nintendo’s recent investment in non-gaming projects is part of the company’s initiative to make sure as many people have access to Nintendo IP as possible. He also talks about the company’s hands-on approach to these adaptations, as Nintendo has been heavily involved in the process of making its games into movies.
The Super Mario Bros. Movie was one of the highest-grossing movies of 2023, and its sequel is set to hit theaters in less than a year. As we await to hear more announcements regarding Nintendo’s future adaptations, stick with us here on Shacknews.
