MOSCOW, March 30. /TASS/. The behavior of UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, who does not mention the Red Army at memorial ceremonies, gives rise to particular concerns, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said in an interview posted on the Foreign Ministry’s website.
"I am particularly concerned of the behavior of the UN Secretary-General. Not because he is a person is approaching ideals but because he is the UN Secretary-General. Whoever he can be, and he is the citizen of Portugal, he worked for a half of his life in international organizations and must understand what the UN Secretary-General is in accordance with Article 100 of the UN Charter. It states, not to accept any instructions from any government whatsoever, observe neutrality and seek after a single matter - performance of goals of the UN Charter," the minister said.
"Guterres, when speaking at the ceremony dedicated to the 80th anniversary of liberation of the Auschwitz-Birkenau [concentration camp], did not mention the Red Army a single time, although the Memory Day for these victims was established according to results of the heroic deed of the Red Army fighters. This is a sad trend," he added.
