Report: Dolphins overcome loss of star centre to take thriller
A high-risk, high-reward play has paid off for the Dolphins, who have given their NRL finals hopes a major boost with a last-ditch 20-18 win over the Warriors.
The Dolphins looked down and out at Auckland’s Go Media Stadium in their Friday night clash, trailing 18-16 with just over two minutes remaining.
But they earned a penalty 35 metres out and opted against going for a score-levelling kick, instead chasing a match-winning try.
It paid off, with the Dolphins scoring on the final tackle in the 79th minute, with Jeremy Marshall-King sending a long ball out for winger Jamayne Isaako to score to snatch the win from the heart-broken Warriors.
It’s a massive boost for the Dolphins, who were in eighth spot heading into round 22, and are looking to keep Manly and the Sydney Roosters at bay.
It appeared the Dolphins’ night would end in misery, with strike centre Herbie Farnworth assisted from the field with a hamstring injury
The England international, who has been the Dolphins’ most consistent performer in 2025, opened the scoring in the fourth minute, crossing for his 12th try of season.
But tragedy struck soon after when the 25-year-old made a break and was charging downfield, only to crash to the turf clutching at his hamstring.
Initial reports from the Dolphins were that the injury was “very bad”, with Farnworth, who was seen on the sidelines with ice on his leg, set to undergo scans back in Brisbane.

Staggs strolls over as Broncos extend lead
That was a little too easy for Brisbane. Adam Reynolds drifts across field, dummies a pass then links up with Reece Walsh, who sends Kotoni Staggs running at a gap between Tallis Duncan (a back-rower playing in the centres) and Alex Johnston. Duncan is no match for Staggs there and the Broncos centre has the game’s fourth try.
Adam Reynolds nails another conversion.
Broncos 18, Rabbitohs 4 with three minutes left in the first half
Souths hit back with Bentley-Hape special
Lewis Dodd has endured a horror first season in the NRL, but the Englishmen has the chance to run the show tonight and he’s come up with a try assist from a well-placed bomb for winger Bayleigh Bentley-Hape, who outleaps Selwyn Cobbo, comes down with the ball, spins and dives over for Souths’ first points tonight.
Isaiah Tass’s conversion attempt goes wide.

Reynolds lays on Brisbane’s second and joins 2500 club
Ah, and just as a young Rabbitohs half shows a bit of promise, an old timer – and one of the best halfbacks in South Sydney history – shows exactly how it’s done. The Broncos march upfield and Adam Reynolds rolls a perfect grubber kick into the in-goal for Jack Gosiewski to score the second try of the night.
Reynolds kicks the conversion to join Cameron Smith as the only players with 2500 first grade points to their name.
(For what it’s worth, Smith finished on 2786 points – the next best are Hazem El Masri with 2418, Jarrod Croker on 2374 and Johnathan Thurston with 2222. Richie Benaud’s dream number, that).

Promising signs from young Souths half
Encouraging stuff from the Rabbitohs here. Young halfback Ashton Ward – all 73kg of him, apparently – takes on the Broncos defensive line not once but twice as Souths look for an opening try. He’s got sharp footwork and looks pretty fearless if those runs are anything to go by. Siliva Havili ends the set with a looping pass for Bayleigh Bentley-Hape but the winger is carried over the sideline just short of the tryline.
Broncos 6, Rabbitohs 0 after 33 minutes
Broncos brilliance as Mam, Walsh open up Souths defence
That is class. It’s taken a little while for Brisbane to get the better of a makeshift Rabbitohs side but they do it in style for the opening points of the match, Kotoni Staggs sending Ezra Mam through a gap in centre field. Mam draws the fullback and passes it to Reece Walsh, who takes a step and sends it immediately back to Mam to score.
On paper, Brisbane should be a class above tonight, and they looked it then.

Watch: Isaako wins it for Dolphins tonight
The Dolphins escaped tonight’s trip to New Zealand with a win thanks to a last-minute winner from winger Jamayne Isaako, after losing Herbie Farnworth to a hamstring injury and Felise Kaufusi to the sin bin. Here’s the chaotic finish.
Yet another injury blow for Souths as Gray exits
Souths are doing pretty well so far but their injury toll might have gone from disastrous to worse with hooker Ryan Gray seeming to be struggling with a shoulder problem after making a tackle in the early minutes. He’s nursing his right arm and has signalled to the bench, and after attempting to play on for a couple of minutes he’s now come off the field with Siliva Havili replacing him.

Broncos get first chance after Duncan error
Not a great start from Souths with a Tallis Duncan knock-on coming out of his own end giving Brisbane possession in attacking territory three minutes into the contest. But the injury-ravaged Rabbitohs defensive line holds firm, and Jye Gray is on the spot to swoop on Ezra Mam’s last-play grubber kick.

Humphreys out in late change for Rabbitohs
Incredible injury situation at South Sydney who have lost half Jamie Humphreys before kick-off, meaning they only have 17 players available from their squad tonight. With Cody Walker already sidelined and Jack Wighton suspended, young halfback Ashton Ward will now join Lewis Dodd in the halves for Wayne Bennett’s side.
They are massive underdogs tonight, but they have first touch of the football as the Broncos kick off. Let’s see how it pans out.
