Latest posts Latest posts RLPA’s concerns over rugby league video game NRLW players have complained about their appearance in a new-NRL endorsed rugby league video game, with the players’ union raising concerns about its rollout. The keenly anticipated release of the Rugby League 26 game 10 days ago has been followed by a barrage of complaints by users over the game’s quality and accuracy. NRLW players Millie Elliott and Kennedy Cherrington have also publicly criticised the likeness of female players in the game after issues around the scanning process used to capture facial features in production. Sources speaking on the condition of anonymity due to the sensitive nature of the matter claim that most of the issues with players’ likeness stem from those who were not available to be scanned when developers attended various clubs. Read the full story from Dan Walsh and Frances Howe Cowboys stretch clear with late double That close Cowboys-Dragons game isn’t so close anymore, North Queensland running in two quick tries – including one long-range effort to Jaxon Purdue off a kick-off – to stretch out to a 38-26 lead. There’s four minutes left, and it’s hard to see St George Illawarra stealing a win here. Change could be coming for international eligibility rules By Dan Walsh and Michael Chammas The likes of Kalyn Ponga and Isaiya Katoa could be free to play State of Origin and represent New Zealand as the ARL Commission considers a landmark change in the game’s eligibility rules. Under the current rules, players such as Payne Haas, Jarome Luai and Brian To’o – all of whom are set to line up for Samoa in the end-of-season Pacific Championships – can play State of Origin and represent tier two countries. Representatives with eligibility for tier-one nations New Zealand and England – such as Queenslanders Kalyn Ponga and AJ Brimson, English back-rower Victor Radley and Weekes – are effectively forced to choose between Origin and playing against Australia. ARLC chairman Peter V’landys conceded on Thursday that the rules as they stand can disadvantage the playing ranks of New Zealand – the Kangaroos’ strongest rival of the past three decades – and that a review of Origin rules will be considered once again after this year’s Ashes Tour and Pacific Championships. “It is something we’re going to have to look at again and to me there does seem to be a stronger push this time for change,” V’landys said. “It is a strong argument that if you’ve played your footy in Australia before the age of 13 and you are eligible to play Origin, why shouldn’t you be able to? “If we were to change the rules, it would only be for New Zealand and English players. “They’re the tier-one countries impacted. [Players from] tier-two nations like Samoa and Tonga can still play State of Origin and represent those nations. “We want a strong international game and calendar, and we want Australia to be challenged. And we want to respect the players and the nations they want to play for, and the argument for change is one we’ll consider. “It wouldn’t be open slather – it would be mostly New Zealand players, and any change would be considered to ensure they’re not left behind.” Advertisement Eels v Broncos: How the teams compare in 2025 Dragons fighting back against Cowboys In tonight’s early game, St George Illawarra looked done and dusted at half-time against the Cowboys in Townsville, trailing 28-12, but have fought back to close the deficit to eight points going into the final quarter of the contest. And now they’ve scored again, cutting the gap to 28-26! Tyrell Sloan has scored a double for the Dragons, while Tom Dearden has starred for North Queensland with a try and a try assist. Sam Tuivait Hello and welcome to tonight’s coverage from the Broncos’ clash with Parramatta at Suncorp Stadium. Payne Haas is back for Brisbane while Mitch Moses makes his long-awaited return for the Eels, who are searching for a turnaround after three losses on the bounce. The Broncos have won five straight and are short-priced favourites here, though Parramatta very much have an eye on the future with the Newcastle-bound Dylan Brown again left out of the team. One big part of that future is young gun Joash Papalii, who shifts from five-eighth to his favoured position of fullback to cover for the injured Isaiah Iongi.
