The Olympic medalist, 23, proposed to his girlfriend, Reyna Guggino, shortly after helping secure the men’s gymnastics national championship for the Michigan Wolverines on Saturday, April 19. After clinching the victory alongside his teammates, Juda got down on one knee at the school's Crisler Center in Ann Arbor and asked Guggino — a fellow gymnast — to marry him. He shared a look at the moment on social media, in a video captioned, "Me thinking winning an NCAA Championship would be the best part of my day...," before he concluded it with a shot of her jumping into his arms on the mat. "Getting engaged to the love of my life❤️." "What a life…," he wrote on Instagram. In photos of the romantic moment, Juda can be seen smiling while presenting the ring, as Guggino covered her face in excitement. They then shared a kiss and celebrated on the floor of the arena. Per a video shared by Big Ten Gymnastics, Juda also spoke into a microphone during the public proposal, telling his now-fiancé: "You make me a better man, a better person." "YOU & ME FOREVER 🤍🥂," Guggino captioned a few snaps on Instagram. "Thankful that God brought me you. One ring for NCAAs and one ring for me. Pretty sure I got the better deal! 💍" Juda later posted a clip of the pair driving together the following day, while listening to Drake and Future's "Big Rings" as Guggino showed off her own big ring. The bronze medalist previously spoke with PEOPLE in August about his history with Guggino, who he revealed the pair met when she visited the University of Michigan during his freshman year. As he explained, she was wearing a "really cute outfit in Timberland boots, a beanie, jeans and a Michigan crew neck," and he said to himself, "I'm going to marry that girl for sure." "I said to myself, that's the girl I'm going to marry one day," he added. "I don't know when, but I'm going to marry that girl for sure." The pair have been dating since September 2020. Juda also revealed that Guggino was motivating him ahead of the Olympics last year, when he "started to process coming to terms with not making the team" and was "showing her how I was starting to plan things after my gymnastics career would be done." "I was telling her we could do all these fun things and move on with our lives, and she really had a stern talking-to with me," he said, adding that Guggino told him, "I don't think you're going to like to hear this, but I came to one of your practices and you just kind of looked like you were giving up, and I know that's not you." "She said, 'I want you to chase your dream, you only have one chance to chase it,'" he recalled. The PEOPLE App is now available in the Apple App Store! While Juda admitted he was "definitely pretty upset with her in the moment," he revealed that he can "owe it all to her," referring to his Olympic successes. He's now both an Olympic medalist and a member of the first U.S. men's gymnastics team to medal in 16 years. As for his achievements this past weekend, Michigan's latest NCAA championship marked the program's first since 2014, as Juda himself won the parallel bars. Per MLive, the win itself came down to Juda's final vault.
