@Source: deccanchronicle.com
Hyderabad: As the Commissioner of Police, Hyderabad, C.V. Anand leads from the front—whether it’s managing the city’s safety or serving as a role model for personal discipline. In a candid chat, he shares how staying physically fit and mentally resilient helps him tackle the intense demands of his profession, the importance of mindful living, and his simple yet effective approach to health, diet, and energy management.Tell me, how do you stay on the beat physically and mentally, given the demands of your profession?To stay on the beat physically and mentally, I practice present moment awareness. I focus on the task at hand, whether it’s policing or playing tennis, and give it my best effort. It’s all about switching on and off. When I am working, nothing can disturb me. But when I am playing a game, I focus on that and enjoy it, which helps me relax. I maintain my calm throughout and enjoy my work. I don’t regret working hard or staying awake during late-night duties. Leading from the front, taking charge, and protecting my officers for good actions helps me stay focused and fresh for the next task.How do you prioritise your own health and wellness in terms of workouts and diet?I take precautions, ensuring I don’t lose muscle mass, which could lead to injuries. I monitor my weight through my belt, which serves as a barometer. If it gets tight, I know I have gained weight. I follow a millet-based diet, limiting rice, sugar, and salt. I avoid careless eating, allowing myself a cheat day per week.My body tells me when I have gained weight, especially after bowling. I feel pain in my knees, and I know I need to lose weight to avoid injuries. I am determined to maintain my health parameters, and it requires careful attention to my diet.What’s your secret to maintaining energy levels during long hours of policing?I have mastered the art of time management, allowing me to spend quality time with my family, watch movies, play sports, attend meetings and private functions.This skill came from my school days, where I juggled cricket and studies, playing for the state and India U-19 while ranking first or second in my class.I prioritise what’s important, enjoying each activity, which eliminates mental fatigue. While physical fatigue may remain, mental endurance is key. It’s about prioritising, enjoying the process, and pushing through. I don’t miss out on anything, whether personal or professional, and that’s the secret to my energy levels.
