In a remarkable feat, Pakistan’s cricket team, led by captain Mohammad Rizwan, achieved a historic victory against South Africa. Speaking at a post-match press conference, Rizwan attributed the success to divine assistance and praised his team’s performance.
Rizwan had anticipated South Africa setting a target of around 320 runs, but the opposition managed to reach 350, largely due to Klaasen’s exceptional innings. Despite this challenging target, Pakistan set a new record for the highest successful chase against South Africa, surpassing their previous record of 349 runs against Australia in 2022.
The captain commended the solid start provided by Babar Azam and Fakhar Zaman. However, after losing wickets, the team had to adjust their strategy. Rizwan lauded Azam as the team’s finest batter, highlighting the strategic advantage of having him as an opening batsman. He revealed that during the match, he avoided looking at the scoreboard until the 18th over and focused on five-over plans, which ultimately proved successful.
Rizwan emphasized the need to improve bowling performance during the death overs. He expressed confidence in Azam’s batting prowess, stating that the team always expects him to score centuries and hopes for a significant innings from him soon. Rizwan also noted the absence of Saeem Ayub as a considerable loss for the team, acknowledging the impact of his absence.
In this historic match, Rizwan and Salman both scored impressive centuries, helping Pakistan chase down the target of 353 runs within 49 overs, while losing only four wickets. This achievement marked the first time two middle-order batsmen from Pakistan have scored centuries in the same innings, setting multiple records in the process.
