@Source: newsweek.com
U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi publicly broke with Elon Musk, the head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), over his call for judicial impeachments following a slew of court rulings blocking parts of the Trump administration's agenda.The ContextThe Trump administration has been dealt more than a dozen legal blows in the past few weeks over DOGE's access to sensitive government records, Donald Trump and Musk's dismantling of the U.S. Agency for International Development, Trump's push to end birthright citizenship, the White House's effort to freeze federal funding and the Trump administration's attempts to force out and fire career civil servants.What To KnowMusk has publicly expressed anger over some of the rulings and on Wednesday called for a "wave of judicial impeachments, not just one." He made the statement in response to a post from a conservative X (formerly Twitter) account that made an unverified claim about the wife of a judge overseeing some of the cases against the Trump administration.Bondi was asked to comment on Musk's post during a news conference Wednesday and said that judicial impeachments are "not going to happen" right now."We're going to look at everything," Bondi told reporters. "We're going to follow the process. These are federal judges with lifetime appointments. But they will be struck down, ultimately, by the Supreme Court of the United States if the appellate courts don't follow the law."Bondi made the comments after announcing that the Justice Department had filed charges against New York state, New York Governor Kathy Hochul, New York Attorney General Letitia James and the commissioner of New York state's Department of Motor Vehicles, Mark Schroeder.The Justice Department's lawsuit against New York and state Democratic officials accuses them of failing to comply with federal immigration policies, Bondi said.This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
