Kaieteur Sports- The Georgetown Office Assistant Promotion Committee (GOAPC) wrapped up its first 2025 Inter-Secondary School eight-a-side Tapeball Cricket Competition on Sunday at the National Cultural Centre tarmac, where Patentia Secondary School clinched the first 2025 title with a deserving four-run victory over Yarrowkabra Secondary in the final.
A tournament quickly becoming a staple on the GOAPC calendar, the competition was expertly coordinated by the indefatigable James “Uprising” Lewis. In the title clash, Patentia Secondary took first strike and posted a competitive total.
Skipper Kevin Mahase led from the front, playing a captain’s knock of 19 runs to steady the innings, guiding his side to 62-3 in their allotted four overs. Robin Scott also played a crucial hand, chipping in with a well-paced 17. The pick of the bowlers for Yarrowkabra was Jadon Birch, who bagged two key wickets for just three runs, keeping Patentia’s total under 70.
In reply, Yarrowkabra found themselves behind the required rate and ultimately ran out of deliveries, finishing on 58-4. With that, Patentia secured a four-run triumph and lifted the coveted championship trophy.
At the closing ceremony, 13-year-old Jadon Birch was named Best Bowler for his stellar performance in the final. Birch, the youngest player in the tournament, showcased immense potential throughout. Meanwhile, the Best Batsman award went to Leon James of Yarrowkabra Secondary, who also took home the MVP honours for his outstanding all-round performance in the competition.
The event was made possible through the generous sponsorship of the National Sports Commission, the Ministry of Culture, Youth & Sports, and Prem’s Electrical of Alexander Street, Bourda.
