PGA Championship: Jon Rahm Makes Good After Hitting Fan in the Head
@Source: newsweek.com
Jon Rahm seems to have found his best golf at the PGA Championship, which has been so elusive at major championships lately. After 54 holes, the Spaniard is tied for fifth place, five shots behind leader Scottie Scheffler.But Rahm made headlines on Saturday for other reasons as well. While hitting his approach shot on the 11th hole, the LIV Golf star sent his ball to the left of the green, directly into the path of a group of fans watching the event.The shot was so unfortunate that it hit one of the spectators directly in the back of the head.Fortunately, the fan who was hit showed little to none sign that anything unusual had happened. Naturally, Rahm went over and presented him with a signed glove as an apology. He also shared a few words and a hug with him."He [the fan] took it great... Sometimes when that happens and they're not hurt, they are so excited because they know we are going to go there and just have a five-minute conversation, and yeah, he took it great and he was a great sport about it."The fan may have escaped unscathed, but it wasn't because of the softness of the shot. The ball hit his head so hard that it bounced, rolled all the way across the green and died 10 feet in the rough on the other side.Rahm eventually made bogey on the 11th hole, his second of the round. He then added another on the 17th, but also carded seven birdies for a 4-under round.It was Rahm's best day so far at Quail Hollow and allowed him to climb nearly 20 spots on the leaderboard to move into contention for the title:"Hard to express how hungry I may be for a major, about as hungry as anybody can be in this situation," he said after the third round. "Very happy to be in position again. Don't know where I'll be. I'm assuming I'll be at least one shot back starting tomorrow but that's a great position.""Very happy with the state of my game. I think today was the round that I knew I was capable of. Those first two rounds felt very confident, and just did everything a little bit better. So just very excited again to be in this position and looking forward to hopefully having a good Sunday tomorrow."Jon Rahm will share a group with Si Woo Kim for the final round, which will tee off at 2:20 p.m. Eastern Time.More Golf: Brooks Koepka Challenges PGA Championship Heckler: 'Come Down Here
