Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to attend the 17th BRICS Summit. He landed at Galeo International Airport, marking the beginning of a two-leg visit to the country. The visit came at the invitation of Brazilian President Luiz Incio Lula da Silva.This is Prime Minister Modi's fourth visit to Brazil. Apart from participating in the BRICS Summit in Rio de Janeiro, he will also undertake a visit to the capital, Braslia. PM Modi wrote on X, "Landed in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where I will participate in the BRICS Summit and then head to its capital, Braslia, for a State visit at the invitation of President Lula. Looking forward to a productive round of meetings and interactions during this visit."Watch: There, he will hold bilateral discussions with President Lula to expand the strategic partnership between India and Brazil across several key sectors, including trade, defence, energy, space, technology, agriculture, health, and people-to-people ties. On the sidelines of the BRICS Summit, the Prime Minister is also expected to hold bilateral meetings with various global leaders.The BRICS grouping, which initially included Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, gradually expanded to include Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Ethiopia, Indonesia, and Iran, making it one of the most influential alliances of emerging economies worldwide.Prior to Brazil, Prime Minister Modi visited Ghana on July 2-3 at the invitation of President John Dramani Mahama, where he also addressed the country’s Parliament.
