The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service has retrieved three state-owned vehicles from the former Managing Director of GIHOC Distilleries Company Limited, Mr. Maxwell Kofi Jumah.
The development follows a formal petition lodged by some workers of GIHOC, prompting an investigation into the alleged unauthorized possession of state assets.
Speaking at a press briefing in Accra, the Director-General of the CID, DCOP Lydia Yaako Donkor, confirmed that the vehicles were recovered as part of ongoing efforts to ensure accountability and proper stewardship of state resources.
“We have retrieved three official vehicles from the former MD of GIHOC following a petition submitted by employees of the company,” DCOP Donkor stated. “Our investigations are ongoing, and we are working to establish the full facts surrounding the matter.”
While DCOP Donkor did not disclose the specific models of the vehicles or the circumstances under which they were being held, she emphasized that the Police Service remains committed to retrieving all state assets held unlawfully by former public officials.
The case has sparked public interest, especially given Mr. Jumah’s high-profile role in both business and politics. He previously served as a Member of Parliament and Deputy Minister of Local Government.
GHIOC Distilleries, one of Ghana’s oldest state-owned manufacturing entities, has in recent months been the focus of internal agitation and calls for reforms in leadership and asset management.
The CID has assured the public that further updates will be provided as investigations progress.
