Season tickets are already sold out for Portland’s newest soccer team, the Portland Bangers, but Tuesday is your chance to get single game tickets.
A limited number of single game tickets will be available starting at 9 a.m. Tuesday, April 8, at portlandbangers.com. Prices will range from $23 to $40, said Courtney Schmidt, team general manager.
Brought to you by the folks behind the Portland Pickles, the new USL League Two men’s soccer team will have its home opener May 15 against Bigfoot FC of Maple Valley, Washington. The Bangers will play at the University of Oregon Portland campus, 2800 N.E. Liberty St., formerly the site of Concordia University.
Last week, the team announced on its Instagram page that season tickets, which ranged from $126 to $175, had sold out.
In soccer, a “banger” is a powerful, long-distance goal. But it’s also a term for a sausage, which is why the team has an anthropomorphic sausage for a mascot.
The name “Bangers” also lends itself to plenty of wiener jokes, which is on par with the sort of silly, unpredictable humor found at Pickles games.
“Our goal with the Bangers is to emulate that community vibe at the Pickles,” Schmidt previously told The Oregonian/OregonLive. “We like to say that even if you’re not a baseball fan, you’re still going to have fun at a Pickles game because it’s more about the venue and the events and coming out and enjoying a beer on a summer night with your friends and family.”
