Prasidh Krishna's Pricy Spell Against Jamie Smith And Harry Brook Invites Memes And Mockery
@Source: news18.com
19, 0, 0, 22, 158, 0, 184, 5, 0, 0, 0. That was England’s bizarre scorecard in their first innings against India in the ongoing second Test at Edgbaston. Down at 84/5 after Mohammed Siraj picked up the invaluable wickets of Joe Root and skipper Ben Stokes in two consecutive deliveries, India’s 587 seemed like a towering task. But Harry Brook and Jamie Smith had different plans. The duo not only stitched a partnership of 303 out of nowhere but also scored at a brisk pace and made the Indian bowling attack look ordinary. Smith remained unbeaten for 184, an inning decorated with twenty-one boundaries and four sixes, while scoring at almost 89 strike rate. His partner in crime, Brook, notched up 158 at an impressive strike rate of 66.
At the receiving end of this incredible onslaught and fightback exhibited by the English middle-order batters were Indian bowlers. However, it was Prasidh Krishna’s expensive spell that frustrated cricket fans as they watched him go for 23 runs in the 32nd over. Smith smoked Krishna for four boundaries and a six.
Social Media Fumes
There were no words minced on social media. Indian cricket fans who had witnessed half the English side return to the tent for a meagre 84 were shell-shocked to see Indian bowlers go wicketless till 387. Krishna, who bowled at an economy rate of 5.54, giving 72 runs in 13 overs, was torn to shreds by the viewers.
“Arshdeep singh is sitting in the dressing room, and Prasidh Krishna gets to play consecutive Test matches. Guy can’t bowl six deliveries without getting hit for a boundary. Crazy selection, (sic)” a user on X, who goes by the handle @gabbbarsingh, remarked.
It was also noted by an X user that Krishna had just bowled the most expensive bowling spell by an Indian bowler since 2006.

The onslaught off the field continued.
“I will sponsor business class ticket for Prasidh Krishna to return to India and never play for India again,” wrote another.
People say it's expensive in Iceland, but have they seen the economy rate of Prasidh Krishna ?

Sorry to say, but 35-year-old Bhuvi is still better than this prime Prasidh Krishna in these English conditions.

Siraj And Akash Deep
Mohammed Siraj and Akash Deep were the saving grace in the Indian squad as the duo worked in tandem and removed all 10 wickets. From 84 for 5 to 387 for 6 to 407 all out, England yielded as many as six ducks in their bizarre innings. Siraj claimed six wickets and Akash Deep settled for four.
Despite the incredible counterattack put up by Brook and Smith, India ended the enjoyable day 3 with a cushiony lead of 244 runs with 9 wickets to spare.
India, who are down 0-1 in the series, would look forward to squaring it while England, the hosts, will eye going up 2-0.
