Demonstrators marched more than 40 miles from Swansea to Cardiff where they called for peace in Gaza with chants and speeches on the steps of the Senedd. Dozens joined the 'Gaza — Not in My Name' march which set off from Swansea Guildhall at 8am on Saturday and arrived in Cardiff Bay at around 2.30pm on Sunday. Chants of "free, free Palestine" were heard from the group, which included six Plaid Cymru candidates for Swansea West-Gower in next year's Senedd elections: Gwyn Williams, Safa Elhassan, John Davies, Rhiannon Barrar, Dafydd Williams and Harri Roberts. The candidates wrote a letter to all Senedd members about the nature of Israel's military action on Gaza. They said: "History will judge us all with the war crimes and genocide that is being inflicted in Gaza," they said. "We need you to have the courage of conviction to proclaim without ambiguity, to the whole world that these crimes are ‘not in our name.’" Their demands included an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and full resumption of international aid; a ban on all arms sales to Israel; and recognition of the state of Palestine and the right of return of the Palestinian people. John Davies, spokesman for the Peace in Gaza campaign, claimed: "So far the Welsh Government has done little to urge an end to the horrifying violence in Gaza. We call for the release of all hostages held by Hamas, an end to all violence and for Israel to halt its policy of settler colonialism and military occupation of Palestine. "The Welsh Government is in a position to exert influence on the UK government. It is high time they brought that influence to bear in the cause of peace."
