Raashii Khanna is a girl’s girl. Her deep friendship with Vaani Kapoor is no secret. She never has had any qualms about sharing screen space with her female peers. In films like Aranmanai 4, Thiruchitrabalam, Yodha and World Famous Lover, she has played the parallel lead alongside Tamannaah Bhatia, Nithya Menen, Disha Patani and Aishwarya Rajesh, who the industry and audience may refer to as her competitors. Grapevine maybe abuzz with stories about catfights, rivalries and insecurities among women actors but Raashii slams them all. On International Women’s Day, in an exclusive chat with News18 Showsha, she bats for sisterhood and opens up on why it’s unfair to pit women against each other. “I’ve also heard of such things – of there being rivalry between two female actors on a film set in the earlier years. But I don’t know about now. It’s a very subjective thing. It depends on the kind of person that you are. It could be between two male actors too but aise humein badnaam kar dete hai ki sirf ladkiyaan hi ladti hai. Aisa nahi hota hai,” she tells us. According to Raashii, these reports often stem from the perception and misconception surrounding women in general. “I don’t think people ask that question enough to male actors. It’s only asked to us, women, because there’s a perception that only we fight and I don’t like that. Any person, irrespective of their gender, can be insecure of others if they’re innately jealous. I don’t think it’s a gender thing. I’ve got to work with some really good actors and I’ve learnt from the great,” she states. The actor, who recently had a release with Tamil film Aghathiyaa, further adds, “I can be a part of multi-starrers or work in a film with three other female actors. As long as the film and my part in it is good, I don’t care about other things. To be honest, I’ve only known such women who want to see other women rise and are happy for their successes. I don’t believe that only women create trouble for each other. Men also do that and so, bringing gender into it is just wrong.” And that’s why Raashii has no apprehension about raising a toast to her contemporaries – outsiders like her – who’re setting new precedents while carving a niche for themselves. Lauding Sanya Malhotra and her performance in the much talked about film, Mrs, she says, “There are so many women who inspire me. Everyone is working so hard to make a mark for themselves and Sanya is one of them. I’m so happy that Mrs is doing so well for her.” The Farzi and The Sabarmati Report actor, who had earlier spoken about sharing a ‘uncomplicated friendship’ with Vaani, continues, “I also like Fatima (Sana Shaikh). She’s a really good actor. I can say the same for Medha (Shankar), who was a part of 12th Fail. They deserve to do great work and I’m happy that they’re doing so. There are so many talents around us and we all have a long way to go.”
