The second leg of Aston Villa's Champions League quarter-final with PSG on Tuesday night began in bizarre fashion after the wrong anthem was played ahead of kick-off.
Players from both sides had lined up in preparation for the Champions League's anthem to be played, but were instead greeted by the soundtrack to the Europa League.
PSG players appeared bemused by the blunder with midfielder appearing to share a joke with his team-mates.
Aston Villa's Youri Tielemans and Ezri Konsa were seen struggling to hold in their laughter.
The Champions League anthem was eventually played at Villa Park ahead of kick-off, with fans left questioning how the blunder had occurred.
According to the BBC, officials from both Aston Villa and UEFA have blamed a system malfunction for the wrong anthem being played.
An automated system had been due to play the Champions League anthem, but reportedly crashed.
This reportedly caused another system to override it, leading to the Europa League anthem being played instead.
Under UEFA regulations, clubs have the responsibility to play competition anthems when players line up ahead of matches.
The governing body itself is only responsible for providing clubs with the anthems.
Aston Villa are expected to avoid sanctions for the mistake with the situation not covered in UEFA's regulations.
On the pitch, Aston Villa were hoping to overturn a 3-1 deficit from the first leg of the quarter-final.
Unai Emery's side, however, saw the deficit increase as PSG raced into a 2-0 lead on the night in 27 minutes.
Goals from Tielemans, John McGinn and Konsa saw Aston Villa stage a dramatic fightback to lead 3-2 on the night.
The hosts were unable to score a fourth goal of the night which would have forced extra time, with Emery's side ultimately being beaten 5-4 on aggregate.
French champions PSG await the winners of the tie between Arsenal and Real Madrid in the semi-finals, with the Gunners holding a dominant 3-0 lead from the first leg.
