Former world number one Andy Murray and his wife Kim’s hotel
has suffered over £350,000 in losses. The 37-year-old and his wife bought the
hotel near his home town in 2013 for nearly £2 million.
According to a report published in the Edinburgh Live, the hotel suffered a massive loss of £369,045 for the year ending March. However, this is an improvement over last year, when it lost nearly £1 million (£919,572).
The report further stated that the last time the hotel made a profit was in 2022, when it made £416,442 in profits. The Murray family has used the hotel. His brother Jamie was married at the same hotel, and his grandparents celebrated their anniversaries there. The hotel is established on 34 acres of private land and has 10 bedrooms, five suites, and a one-bedroom lodge.
Murray, who is often regarded as the greatest British player
in the history of men’s tennis in the singles category, retired from
professional tennis after taking part at the Paris Olympics last year. He
finished his illustrious career with three Grand Slam titles. His first major
title was the US Open in 2012, where he defeated Serbia’s Novak Djokovic in the
final in a five-set thriller with a score of 7–6(12–10), 7–5, 2–6, 3–6, 6–2.
One year later, in 2013, Murray lifted the Wimbledon title
for the first time after beating Djokovic again in the final in straight sets with
a score of 6–4, 7–5, 6–4. Three years later in 2016, the Glasgow-born star lifted
his second Wimbledon and last Grand Slam title after beating Canada’s Milos
Raonic in straight sets with a score of 6-4, 7-6, 7-6. Soon after retiring from
the sport, Murray started working with the former world number one and Serbia's legendary tennis star Djokovic as his coach. Both have recently decided to continue the collaboration till Wimbledon this year.
